
Francisco “Manolo” Martinez
Francisco Martinez, better known as “Manolo”, was born in Pto. Plata in December of 1957.
He grew up in a poor home and was a shoe shine boy on the streets until a missionary saw his potential and helped him follow through on his education and led him to the Lord.
Although he felt incapable and intimidated, he began as interim pastor of the local Baptist church 1974 and eventually became pastor of First Baptist Church, Pto. Plata where he has pastored for 30 years. This church has 32 mission points in Pto. Plata, started 3 churches in other cities through a correspondence course program, and sent their first missionaries to Montecristi and Cotui.
He graduated with a psychology degree in 1991 and received his master’s degree this year from Southern Baptist School for Biblical Studies. He also was given an honorary doctorate from the Universidad Cristiano Emanuel in New Jersey, USA.
Currently serving as executive director of the Dominican Baptist Convention, he also has served three terms as convention president.
He is happily married to Mirta for over 20 years and together they have raised 2 children.
Manolo is an avid student of the Bible especially in the area of church planting, church growth and discipleship. He has written 11 books and discipleship courses and 2 church planting manuals. He has also started the “Fundacion Constructora de Esperanza”, a foundation for AIDS orphans in the DR.
Manolo began working with Pioneer Missions in August of 2005 and has been at the helm of the church planting movement of the DR staying a step ahead with strategic planning and organizational skills.
